1972 - Erdély (Romania)

Ha jól emlékszem 1972-ben voltam először külföldön 7 évesen. Akkor ismerősöket látogattunk meg Nagybányán (Baia Mare), Erdélyben. Persze sok mindenre nem emlékszem így 38 év távlatából, de pár emlék van. Az első, hogy 3-4-szer biztosan át kellett szállni a vonat út során, és vagy 14-16 óráig tartott az út Budapestről, pedig Nagybánya nincs is nagyon messze a határtól, kb. 120 km-re lehet. A román oldalon pedig igazi fapados kocsikból állt a vonat ami azért már 1972-ben nem igen volt szokás Magyarországon. (Erről jut eszembe, hogy a fiam épp most ment fapadossal Svédországba, igaz ez nem vonat. :-) )

Abban az időben a "baráti szocialista" országok közötti határátlépés úgy nézett ki mint manapság Észak- és Dél-Korea között. A vonat letáborozott a határon és órákon át ellenőriztek főleg a román határőrök és vámosok mindent amit csak lehetett.

A boltok. Hát igen az nagy sokkhatás volt. Pedig 1972-ben Magyarországon sem roskadoztak a boltok pultjai a nagy áruválasztéktól. De ami Romániában volt az még ma is emlékezetes. Üres polcok hosszú sora, néhol 1-1 használhatatlan árucikk. Ismerőseink elmondása szerint nem ritkán 7-8 órát is álltak felválltva sorba alapvető dolgokért amit nem tudtak a kertben megtermelni.

A hegyek. Azok fantasztikusak. Sajnos nem sokat jártam azóta Erdélyben de emlékszem, hogy csodálatos túrákat tettünk akkor, melyek során Bálint bácsi remek szalonnáját sütöttük a hegyi tisztásokon és faltuk hozzá a paradicsomot. Medvével azonban nem találkoztunk, de elmondásuk szerint ez nem lett volna nagyon meglepő. Ők fel voltak készülve rá és tudták mik az alapvető szabályok medve vizit esetén.

TV. Az ugyan volt ismerőseinknek, de Nagybánya már kiesett a magyar TV sugárzási területén, a Román TV-ben pedig leginkább a Conducatort éltető esztrád műsorok ill. a legutóbbi pártkongresszus célkitűzéseinek elemzésével foglalkozó és végrahajtására bíztató műsorok voltak. De legalább nem volt nagy kisértés, hogy a TV előtt üljünk. Helyette inkább hatalmas számrömi csatákkal és focizással múlattuk a nyári estéket.

If I recall correctly, I was abroad in 1972 at age 7. We visited our friends in Baia Mare in Romania which part called Transylvania and has significant Hungarian minority. I do not remember about many things but still have some memories. The first is that we had to travel 14-16 hours at least from Budapest however Baia Mare is only approx 120 kms away from the border which is 4 hours train travel from Budapest. We had to change our trains maybe 3-4 times. On the Romanian side the trains were so old that they had only wooden seats which was not the case in Hungary in the 70s.

During that times crossing the border between the friendly socialist countries looked like as it is today between North and South-Korea. The train stopped at the border and the Board and Duty officiers were checking everything extremely accurately for hours. Maybe we spent 2-3 hours at the border.

The shops. Well, those were indeed shocking for me although in 1972 the shops neither had wide selections in Hungary. However what we experienced in Romania that was terrible. The shops had long shelves without anything and occasionally they had few totally useless and poor quality goods. Our friends told us that they frequently had to wait 7-8 hours in the queue to buy basic food what they could not produce in their small garden-farm.

The mountains. Yes, those were and I guess still are beatiful. We had great tours in the mountains and made our own food on fire. I do remember the roasted bacon and potato and tomato. We did not meet with any bear however our friends were prepared for that and they would not have been very surprised as the bear population is quite high in the Carpathian mountains.

TV. Our friends had TV but Baia Mare was out from the Hungarian TV broadcast area and the Romanian National TV broadcasted only propaganda program about the Communist dictator and the Communist party directives. At least we were not tempted to sit in front of the TV for hours so we played lats of card games and football during the hot summer evenings.
